Frozen

Katrina got her lunch, which consisted of a salad with lettuce that looked like it was turning slightly brown, a pretzel, and a bottle of water, and found herself missing St. James a little. After all, she had a few friends there, and the food was better. Of course, she'd been tormented relentlessly for her openness to homosexuality and labled 'bi' or a 'lesbian' even though she'd never been with a girl. This caused many fights, all of which she won. The last one, coupled with her swearing at a nun (teacher?) got her kicked out, and transfered to public school. George Washington High.

And now, on her first day at a brand new school, the independent, free-spirited Kat faced a cafeteria full of people. She froze, not knowing where she could go to sit without being shunned already. And so, like all new students do at their first lunch, she stood there, eyes-wide, looking helplessly for a friendly face. Frozen.

Viola saw a girl who seemed to have that horrible "new student" look of paralyzing fear on her face in the cafeteria. She walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Hey," she said politely. "You want to eat lunch with me?"

Katrina turned around to face the girl who had come up behind her. "Oh, thanks," Kat said, smiling slightly. She wasn't sure if this was quite the way she had wanted this to work out... this girl didn't seem like the type of person she would really get along with, but at the moment anything was better than standing there like an idiot looking at all of the full tables. "Where're you sitting?" Kat felt like everybody was watching her at this point, and just wanted to sit down.

[Viola Hastings]

"Over there with that kid," she said pointing to a table with a blonde boy sitting at it. He had the rocker air about him. "If that's all right."

She walked over to the table and placed her tray on it waiting for the other girl to come take a seat.

"She's going to sit with us today, all right?" she asked. "Oh Kyan this is. . .umm I don't know your name."

[Ravi Malone]

Ravi had just purchased his food and was now looking for a place to sit. He spotted the hot boy he had met in the bathroom earlier and went over to the table. There was already to girls over there asking him if they could sit with him, the one was pretty cute so it was pretty much an added bonus.

"Um, do you guys mind if I sit with you?" he asked.

Kyan looke up at the new girl and shrugged his shoulders, signifying he didn't care if she did. He then saw that the guy from the bathroom smoking. . . Ravi.

"No knock yourself out. We'll hve a party," Kyan said indifferently.

[Ravi Malone]

"Cool." said Ravi trying to sound calm and cool, not showing how excited he really was. He didn't want to seem like he sat there for the soul purpose of talking to Kyan so he took a seat across from Kyan then turned to the two girls. "I'm Ravi by the way." he said, "It's very nice to meet you both."

[Randy Evans]

Randy was heading towards the lunch table unofficially dubbed the jock table in the cafeteria when he saw a table with that kid Ravi who was in some of his classes, and that senior freak who worked at a gay club.

"Fucking fags," he spat as he walked by.

[Viola Hastings]

"Excuse me for a second won't you?" Viola said to the new girl. She turned around and glared at that little shithead Randy.

"Fucking asswipe!" she shouted.

[Ravi Malone]

When Randy shouted "Fag" all Ravi could do was blush and look down at his tray. He really didn't want to start a fight with Randy; he had seen all the stuff he does to that Jewish kid, so he just sat there with his mouth shut and tried not to let it faze him. His mothers had always told him that there would be people in the world who were going to hate him for who he is and wasting his time and energy trying to get back at them just wasn't worth it in the long run, but they also said that if some asshole tried to beat him up to kick him in the balls and run. So he sat there and tried not too look to upset about it.

"Hey." he said gently to the girl who yelled at Randy, "Just don't worry about it ok."

[Viola Hastings]

Viola sat down, fuming about that arrogant little prick. Oooo. . ..if she could have she would have run over there and beat some sense into him. . .

'It's not okay," she said. "Where does he come off so high and mighty. He's just jealous 'cause he's too afraid to come out of the closet himself. . .sorry I hate homophobes. Ravi is it? I'm Viola."

[Kyan Walker]

"Take a deep breath, Vi," Kyan said with a shake of his head. "Randy'll get his one day. But for now let's not scare the nice little new girl away from our table. You can sit down, it's cool."

[Ravi Malone]

"It's very nice to meet you Viola." said Ravi politely, " I appreciate what you did, but you shouldn't have done that; Randy wanted to get a rise out of us and you gave him what he wanted. Now he knows how easy it is."

[Viola Hastings]

"He's always known how easy it is," she replied. "I never put up with his bullshit."

Paul entered the cafe with his tray of food and stood looking for a place to sit. He was hoping he would have the same lunch as his brother, but no such luck apparently. But luckily for him he did spot the really cool senior he had met that morning sitting with a few other people. Paul was sort of a shy person so he wandered around for a little while until he built up the courage to ask Kyan if he could sit with him. When he was ready he walked over to Kyan's table.

"Er, do you all mind if a sit with you?" he asked.

"Oh sure, knock yourself out," Viola said.

It was strange. Ususally she and Kyan sat by themselves at lunch and now suddenly there were five people at their table.

Katrina sat down, and just watched in silence as the yelling began. She slowly began to eat her salad, acting as though the whole thing wasn't happening. In fact, she didn't speak until one of the boys, Kyan, she thought, mentioned scaring her away.

"It isn't a big deal," she said, shrugging. "I got into fights like that all the time at St. James. That's mostly why they shipped me off here," she added. "I'm Katrina, by the way. Katrina Savage." She was only a junior, and she was pretty sure that most (if not all) of the other students at the table were Seniors. She didn't mind that they were 'outcasts' of a sort, since she was a pretty big outcast herself.

"Ohhh, a rebel I see," Kyan replied with a quick chuckle. "Nice to meet you---oh hey it's the newbie! Come have a seat, Paul."

"It's very nice to meet you Katrina." said Ravi, the girl really wasn't all that bad looking, but he kinda had a thing for someone else. . . "I hope you like it here better than St. James."

Paul smiled and quickly took a seat next to Kyan. "Hello again." he said, pulling Kyan's nail polish out of his pocket and handing it to him, "I did my nails during my study hall. See." he showed Kyan his fingers. He hadn't done the best job in the world with it; there was some clumps of polish on his nails and some smudges on his finger tips. "Um, yeah, it's not done as well as yours though. . ."

"That's because I'm part fag," Kyan explained casually, as though he were sayign he was part irish or something. "We have a knack for being fashionable. Things like that come naturally to us."

Katrina shook her head, still nibbling at her salad, as Kyan called her a rebel. "Nothing like that. I mean, yeah, I got into fights, but I didn't start a single one of them." She didn't want people to think she was a trouble maker, because she really wasn't. She wasn't doing things like that to get attention or anything, but she was incapable of just ignoring people when they started stuff.

"Nice to meet you too, Ravi," she agreed. "I'm sure this place'll be fine. I didn't particularly dislike St. James," she added, eyeing up the boy who had walked by and yelled the 'fag' comment. "It seems there are royal pain in the asses everywhere."

"Oh, I see." said Paul, perfectly comfortable with Kyan being gay. "My brother is bisexual and he's really bad with stuff like that. Stupid twat really now that I think about it."

Ravi could help but over hear Kyan telling the younger student he was "part fag." He was beside himself with excitement; if Kyan was gay that meant that they could. . . possibly. .. .
Ravi did his best to hid his excitement as he spoke to Katrina.

"Yeah, I guess your right. Ours is called Randy, and his one of the biggest pains in the ass you will ever meet."

"What?" Kyan asked. "Being bi is just one step further than metro. . .I should know."

He shook his head sadly at Paul's account of his brother. Then he foudn himself tuning into the other conversation.

"Yeah, I'd like to give Randy a pain in his ass," he muttered, thrusting his pelvis forward and laughing. "Maybe if he got some he wouldn't be such an ashhole."
