Zanna felt the tap on her shoulder, and at first she thought that it was Vinnie's hand. The female voice behind her informed her that she was mistaken. Jumping backwards, Zanna almost hit the girl as she spun about to face her, since they were in such a close proximity. So she had heard footsteps before, then. At least she knew she wasn't hallucinating.
At the way this younger girl was reacting she would have assumed that she was his girlfriend or some sort of jealous ex! Zanna recognized her as the girl from all of the family pictures upstairs, so she assumed that this was his little sister, the drummer.
"I was... we were..." Zanna started, but couldn't form a coherent string of words. Her pale cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson (not for the first time that night) and she looked back at Vinnie for some sort of support. "Is it really your business?" she asked boldly, unsure of what else to say. It was pretty obvious what they'd been doing, so she wasn't about to actually dignify that question with a response.

"LENA!" bellowed Vinnie out of shock and outrage. Of course, the situation was far too good to be true, of course Lena would burst in and ruin it. Vinnie didn't understand why his sister turned into crazy bitch mode when ever he was with a girl! Perhaps it was to get back at him for all the boys he chased away from her. What ever the reason it was infuriating! And in this instance it was just plain rude.
He could tell that Zanna was shock, embarrassed, and pissed off. Take out the embarrassed part and that's how Vinnie felt. "Zanna is right, it really isn't any of your business, Adelena." he said sternly. He wasn't about to be pushed around by he fifteen year old sister. "I'm a allowed to be with a girl if I want, regardless of how you think!" He knew he was being harsh with her, but he had to set some bounderies. Lena couldn't just burst in when ever he wanted to be alone with a girl and control his relationships.
"Don't you have homework or something?" he said, calming himself down; he rarely ever yelled at his sister, "Could you please just go upstairs and leave us alone?" He looked at his sister with pleading eyes.

Lena was taken aback by her brother's harsh tones; she wasn't used to him speaking to her like that, but she wasn't about to let her shock show on her face. Not only that, but he actually sided with the slut. Her older brother, who was supposed to be there for her no matter what, had sided with some random fucking slut? This was not happening. She stood her ground with he weight on her left leg, her arms crossed, and positively annoyed look on her face.
"Oh, so you're just going to pick her over me?" said Lena in outrage, "Is that what you're saying? Come potrebbe il mio proprio fratello scegliermi un certo slut casuale sopra?! Neppure non la avete introdotta alla famiglia! Non posso credere appena che abbiate fatto qualcosa come questo, Vinnie!" Vinnie had done it, he gotten her so riled up that she forgot how to speak English. He memory returned to her when she finally noticed the ice pack on her brother's head.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM??" she bellowed in shock at the slut. She quickly turned back to her brother, her voice full of concern, "Siete hurt? Che cosa ha fatto quel whore diabolico faccia a voi?" She took the ice pack of her brother's head and looked at the bright red bump that was forming. She turned back to the slut, pissed beyond words.

Zanna felt horrible for starting this fight between the two siblings. She didn't want to cause any trouble, really she didn't! Perhaps it would have been better for her to have just kept her mouth shut and not done anything. But Vinnie's voice went from yelling to pleading, and Zanna wondered if perhaps this was one of those situations where the younger sister actually had some control over the older brother, for whatever reason. Lena seemed to be a very strong, very confident person.
Zanna felt the smallest of smiles tug at the corners of her mouth as Vinnie sided with her argument, and hoped that Lena would listen to him and go back upstairs and do homework or something. No such luck. There was an outburst of Italian, and though Zanna wasn't exactly fluent she picked up some similar words like 'slut' and whore' which were enough to make her a little defensive. This was exactly what she'd been afraid of!
"I didn't do anything. Your brother invited me over to hang out, and he dropped the DVD and hit his head on the table. I got him ice from the freezer to help. Then we were watching the movie, and my mother called, and I got upset, and one thing led to another and we kissed. There, now you're all filled in. Happy?" Zanna wasn't going to sit there and be yelled at by some underclassman she didn't even know. She didn't deserve this... she hadn't done anything wrong!
"Listen, maybe it'd be best if I just go," she said, grabbing her purse off the floor where she had set it down upon entering the basement. "You two can talk this over," she said, starting to make her way to the door. The blush had returned to her cheeks and her voice was quiet, obviously embarrassed at her situation.

"Lena! She didn't do anything to me! I bumped my own head, ok? See! She got me ice and everything!" said Vinnie sternly after Zanna had given her own explanation. He couldn't let his sister boss him around in front of Zanna. "Stop acting like such a brat! I've put up with far more from you!" Even though there was certain occasions where he would scare boys away from his sister, if he thought the guy was cool he would normally keep his eye on them from a distance and not go all psycho like Lena was doing now.
Listen, maybe it'd be best if I just go,
"Zanna! Wait, I, ge-eh-ga!" Vinnie sputtered as Zanna began to gather her things. Finally he sighed in a defeated way and gave up on trying to convince her to stay. As much as he wanted her to, he knew the situation had become to tense and awkward. "At least let me walk you out!" said Vinnie. He shot Lena a death glare before going after Zanna. It figured, he finally had something good going with a girl and something had to mess it up. Why did Vinnie have such horrible luck? He couldn't help but think how different things would be if his mother hadn't died. Maybe she could have taught him how to talk to girls, or at least kept Lena at bay.
Vinnie walked Zanna upstairs and to the front door then stepped out side with her. "Listen, I'm really really sorry about Lena," he said apologetically, his cheeks bright red from embarrassment, "She just- I dunno," he shook his head, "Since my dad is alway working and my brother lives on the other side of the city, I think Lena feels like I'm all she's got and she doesn't want to compete with another girl for my attention." He wasn't trying to make excuses for his sister, he just wanted Zanna to sort of understand his situation, "but that's no excuse for how she acted. . . and I'm sorry for the Italian, that' kind of rude. It's like talking about someone behind their back right in front of their face and that's not cool. I try not to do that. . . yeah. . . "
Vinnie paused and looked awkwardly at the ground. He kicked at a stone that was sitting on the porch then looked back up at Zanna, "When can I see you again?" he asked with a blush. He really did want to see Zanna again. He didn't know if them making out made them boyfriend girlfriend, but Vinnie really wanted to try things out. He wasn't the type of guy to just make out with a girl then forget her five minutes later. He liked to think the kiss was driven by an emotional connection and not hormones.

Zanna paused, careful not to make eye contact with Lena if she could help it, as she waited for Vinnie. She felt bad just leaving all of a sudden, but she really didn't want to get caught up in what seemed like a family issue, despite the fact that she was the central point of argument. She waited for Vinnie to catch up to her and walk her up the stairs and to the front door, even so far as outside on the steps.
"It isn't your fault, don't worry about it. I know how little siblings could be," she said, her tone completely reassuring. "I understand. Just make sure you work things out with her, though, okay? I'd hate to think I caused some sort of problem in your family," she added.
Zanna had been afraid that, since she had caused so much drama already, Vinnie wouldn't want to see her again. She wouldn't blame him had that been the case. She was very surprised, obviously, when he asked when he could see her again.
"Umm... I don't know. Things with practice might get a little rough if my mom is angry with me, so... here's my number," she said, reaching into her purse and pulling out a piece of paper, writing some numbers down on it. "And my e-mail. Give me a call sometime, and we'll get together again. Soon. Okay?"
Zanna knew that trying to set up a meeting now would be pointless, since there was a good chance her mother would ground her for life after tonight's stunt.

"Oh, um, yeah, practice, right." said Vinnie, his face falling a bit. He didn't want to think Zanna was making excused not to see him again, but a small part of his brain was thinking that. After that scene in the basement he could understand Zanna not wanting to see him again; who'd want to go out with someone who had a crazy family? Zanna probably thought that the rest of his family was just as crazy as Lena!
No. He had to be confident about this and look on the bright side. At least she was giving him to different was to commentate with her. That had to mean something. And Zanna really was always busy with practice. She probably told him that so then wouldn't make plans then have them ruined by her mom making her practice.
"Yeah, thanks." said Vinnie accepting her phone number and email address. "I'll call you, um, in the next few days I guess. . . Next time I'm thinking we shouldn't come back here." Vinnie laughed awkwardly. "Heh, yeah. . ."
Vinnie made a bold decision. He leaned in an gave Zanna a quick light kiss.

Zanna noticed the look on Vinnie's face and realized that it sounded as if she was trying to make excuses not to see him again. With a worried expression she quickly exclaimed, "Oh no, no, not like that! I mean, I really do. I just wouldn't want to set up a date and then have to break it." She hoped that this explanation would be okay. He seemed to understand, and took her phone number with a smile.
"I'll be looking forward to it," she said, glad someone would be calling her phone other than her mother.
Vinnie leaned in and gave her a quick kiss, which she returned, her lips curling up into a smile against his.
"Thanks for... part of a movie. I had fun," she said, still smiling. "I'll see you later."

"Yeah. . . me too." said Vinnie, almost in a daze. "I, er, ah, yeah, I'll see you later."
Part of Vinnie knew that he should offer Zanna a ride home, but it was like he'd gone momentarily brain dead. It was like everything that had just happened was hitting him all at once. He'd made out with a girl. Actually made out with a girl! And not just any girl, some one who he could see himself caring about a lot. He wasn't sure if it was love yet, it was far too soon to tell. Vinnie wanted to give it a chance, though. He almost didn't care that Lena had burst in and ruined everything because she, well, hadn't ruined anything. As hard as Lena tried for it to not happen, Zanna actually wanted to see him again. She genuinely wanted to see him again. This was almost too much for Vinnie to handle all at once. All he could to was stand there blushing, watching Zanna leave.
