Tad pushed the door open with his shoulder, staying put so that he could hold the door open for Brooke as she walked in. He stuck his keys back in his pocket, as he let the door swing shut behind her.
He put down his bag of food on the coffe table and glanced around the kitchen which was wall-less so that it connected to the living room.
"So yeah, this is my house," he commented vaguely, gesturing that she could put her food down on the coffee table too if she wanted.
The house was more or less a bachelor pad. Whatever te steroetype about gay guys knowing how to decorate, hadn't carried over to his dad. He turned back to Brooke.
"Huh, well my dad should be home," he said. "He's probably in his room reading or something. We should probably get the whole meeting process out of the way. He's been going on about how he wants to meet you. Here, I'll show you his room"
He almost rolled his eyes, but caught himself. As he passed by his own room, just a plain wooden door with a bumper sticker that said Back in Black on it in black bubble letters, he pointed to it.
"That's mine, and here we are," he stopped outside of his dad's room and opted against knocking, which he soon regretted.
He pushed open the door without hesitation to see his dad laying on top of the sheets in just a pair of jeans--his shirt was tossed carelessly on the chair beside the bed-- and a man stradling him still fully clothed-- there was a God. The unknown man had his hands on Jon's button and zipper.
Tad stood there slack jawed and shocked. He quickly realized Brooke was beside him. he slid a hand down his face and shut the door quickly. Maybe. . .she hadn't just seen. . .what he was going to probably relay to his therapist one day. . .when he got one.
"I don't know if I mentioned my dad was English," Tad said with an awkward chuckle. ". . .And gay."

Brooke followed Tadhg's lead, putting her bag of food down on the coffee table where he had placed his, making sure she knew which one was hers so that they didn't mix them up. It was a nice place, really. A good size considering that there were only two people living there. Brooke wondered how weird it would be if she only lived with one of her parents. She couldn't begin to imagine, though she supposed that after a while you got used to it.
"Huh, well my dad should be home," he said. "He's probably in his room reading or something. We should probably get the whole meeting process out of the way. He's been going on about how he wants to meet you. Here, I'll show you his room"
Brooke was more nervous about meeting Tad's dad than she thought she would be. After all, she really did like him, and wanted to make a good first impression to his family. She knew that as soon as people hear she was a cheerleader they automatically assume she's ditzy, or that she was shallow and superficial. But that wasn't the case at all. Sure, she cared how she looked, but who didn't? She also spent tons of time studying, did well in school, had hobbies like comic books, and she played the violin. Brooke was a little bit of everything, really.
"Yeah, sure..." she said, hoping that he'd like her.
"That's mine, and here we are," His door was plain, but she could tell by the bumper sticker that it was clearly his room. Nice. Even though her room was decorated, her door was completely plain. Tad opened the door without knocking, and the scene that Brooke was greeted with caused her to bring a hand up to her mouth in shock. His dad was in bed with another guy, and even though both of them still had pants on it was obvious what was about to happen there. Her eyes were still slightly wide as Tadhg quickly shut the door and turned back to face her.
"I don't know if I mentioned my dad was English," Tad said with an awkward chuckle. ". . .And gay."
Brooke laughed a little too, before realizing that her hand was still over her mouth. She slowly brought it back down to her side, pursing her lips awkwardly. "No... no, I think you neglected to mention that before," she said, smiling slightly. She was shocked, of course, but she wasn't judgemental. Who was she to comment on the lifestyle Tadhg's dad chose to live? It wasn't any of her business.
"So, now that he never wants to talk to me again," she said, slowly backing away from the bedroom door, afraid of what his dad was going to do or say if and when he came out.

Tad was shaking his head to himself as he walked back into the living room. God, why did he keep managing to walk in on his dad in awkward situations.
"So ignoring the fact that we're both going to be mentally scarred for a while, umm yeah. . ." he hesitated searching for the right words. "This doesn't usally happen."

Jon saw the door open, saw light spilling into his room. He and Marc, a man he'd met at Babylon a week ago, were frozen in a deer in the headlights pose.
"Bullocks," he spat ((yes, spat)) as he sat up in bed.
The door shut and he grabbed his shirt off the chair. He quickly button the white with black pinstripes shirt up so he looked slightly presentable.
"I thought you said he wouldn't be home for another hour," Marc said disappointedly.
"Perhaps you should await here," he informed Marc.
He then wandered into the hallway: barefoot. He found Tad and Brooke and grinned sheepishly at the two. He cleared his throat awkwardly and looked apollegtically at Tad. This wasn't how he'd planned his first meeting wth his son's new girlfriend.
"Well, erm. . .right then," he stammered. "I just , that is to say. . . we were just. . .I hmmm. . .I didn't think you'd be home for a bit yet. . . well I mean obviously."
He sighed and then took a deep breath. He was sure he was making a lovely first impression on the girl.
"Right, I'm Tadhg's father, Jon Kely," he told, erm, Brooke he supposed.

Brooke tried to act like she hadn’t seen anything, but she knew that it was obvious she’d seen everything. Luckily for them, the scene behind the door hadn’t been half as bad as she imagined it could have been. If they’d come in five minutes later, well… she didn’t really want to think about what else they could’ve walked in on.
"This doesn't usally happen."
Brooke just nodded, not really sure what else to say at this point. Awkward was an understatement when describing how the situation was becoming. Then Tadhg’s dad walked out of his room and into the hallway. She wasn’t sure what she’d have to say to him now; this wasn’t exactly how she had planned on this happening.
"Well, erm. . .right then," he stammered. "I just , that is to say. . . we were just. . .I hmmm. . .I didn't think you'd be home for a bit yet. . . well I mean obviously."
Brooke just smiled up at him, trying her best not to look too embarrassed, both for herself and for him. She couldn’t imagine how weird it must’ve been for him, probably worse than it was for her, really. She still didn’t reply, though, because what could she say in this situation?
"Right, I'm Tadhg's father, Jon Kely,"
Ah, normal conversation. Now, this was something she could respond to.
“Brooke Lynch,” she said. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Kelly,” she said, trying her best to act as though nothing had just happened. She looked over at Tadhg, hoping that maybe he’d say something.

The last time was directed towards Tadhg. He knew this was all wrong. Although a few minutes ago it had felt rather right. . .
"So I assume you're Tadhg's new girlfriend. . .otherwise this has just reached a whole new level of awkward," Jon said with a chuckle that was quickly stifled. "Not that my son's in the habit of bringing other girls back here. . .and. . . blast.:

Not as sorry as I am, Tad thought with an inward groan. Perfect just perfect. he'd been trying to think of a casual way to bring up the fact that his dad was gay in conversation and here it had been thrust---oh God-- forced upon them. . .in a very not subtle way.
"So I assume you're Tadhg's new girlfriend. . .otherwise this has just reached a whole new level of awkward. Not that my son's in the habit of bringing other girls back here. . .and. . . blast."
Tad slapped his head into his hand and slid his plam down his face. Welcome to my own personal nightmare. . .
"Hey dad, why don't you go talk to what's his name, and Brooke and I will just sit and play video games. . .and try to erase the last five to ten minutes of our lives," he said in a joking yet meaningful way. He didn't want his dad sticking around longer than he had to in his frazzled state of mind. . .he might get him into some serious trouble with his jokes.

"And it's a pleasure to meet you, as well,"
Well, at least he was being nice about it. Even though the situation was rather awkward, Brooke felt as though everyone was handling it well, especially given the circumstances. She was sure that Tadhg’s dad wasn’t a bad guy, despite the fact that she’d caught him in such a compromising position. Position, ugg. She tried not to think about it.
"I'm terribly sorry we had to err meet under such. . .interesting circumstances. I don't want to bother you with details, but I really am terribly sorry. Really."
Even though he had started off that sentence talking to her, she had a feeling that the last bit was more directed at Tad. After all, Brooke could see how it would be easy for her to be scared off by this incident. Honestly, she’d thought about it for a moment or two. Was this going to happen often? And was her coming over every now and then going to be a problem? But she decided that things would work themselves out.
“Really… it’s fine. We should’ve knocked,” she said, hoping to make him feel a little better about the whole thing. The more he apologized, the more awkward she felt about the whole thing. Maybe it would be best if she just left for now, and came back later.
"So I assume you're Tadhg's new girlfriend. . .otherwise this has just reached a whole new level of awkward,"
Brooke laughed a little as well, albeit hesitantly. “Yeah…” she started to respond softly, but Jon continued before she could raise her voice.
"Not that my son's in the habit of bringing other girls back here. . .and. . . blast.:
“Ummm,” she started, trying to think of some sort of response to that statement. At this point, Brooke found herself nervously fidgeting with the bottom of her shirt, not realizing she was doing it at the time. She was pretty sure he’d been joking, but how was she to know? Maybe Tadhg was quite the lady’s man, and he had tons of girlfriends all the time. But, somehow, she had a feeling that just wasn’t the case, and figured that his dad must’ve been joking. This conversation was just getting more and more uncomfortable by the second.
Thankfully, Tadhg replied instead, saving her the pain of having to think of a reply. "Hey dad, why don't you go talk to what's his name, and Brooke and I will just sit and play video games. . .and try to erase the last five to ten minutes of our lives," Brooke gave Tadhg a meaningful look, and felt absolutely horrible about the way their meeting had gone over. She was unable to hide the hint of blush at the mentioning of the man back in Jon’s bedroom, remembering what they’d interrupted. Oh dear…

Jon chuckled awkwardly at Tad's statement, realizing how awful what he'd just said sounded. It might have been funny in private after Brooke had left, but now he made his son like some sort of . . . player.
"His name is Marc actually. . .but right, perhaps I had best just go talk things over with him. He'll be gone shortly. Again I'm terribly sorry. Have fun playing your video games," he said backing into the hallway.
Blimey, what he wouldn't give to be somewhere else right now. Ah well he'd proved to Brook the first moment she'd seen him that he was a bona fide assbandit. Great. . .

Brooke nodded slowly. "Tell Marc we're sorry for not knocking," she added as he turned to leave, realizing that this must've been just as awkward for that other guy as well. After all, no body wanted to be walked in on while they were having private, intimate moments. She felt horrible about what had happened, even thought none of it was really her fault. Tadhg had been the one who had opened the door, and Jon had been the one who hadn't locked his door, but she felt guilty just the same for what she saw.
As Jon went back into his room, Brooke turned back to face Tadhg. "Well... we should do this again sometime," she said, smiling nervously while wondering if maybe she shouldn't speak when she didn't really know what to say. What could she say? They'd just walked in on his dad and another man, after Tadhg had neglected to tell her that his dad was gay. There wasn't a whole lot to say...

Tad ran his hands through his hair and then pressed his palms to his temples. Oh man, good times, he though sarcastically.

"And I realize this all could have been less shocking if I'd mentioned my dad was a gay bachelor before hand, but I just couldn't think of a casual way to slip my dad likes other guys into the conversation."

"God. Why does this keep happening. It's like my eyes were just raped. . .sorry I mean this has got to be just fantastic for you."
Brooke watched as Tadhg threw himself down onto the sofa. He had the manner of someone who had completely given up on life in general as he ran his hands through his dark tresses and rested them on his temples. As he sat there, holding his head in his hands, Brooke couldn't help but smile at how cute he was in this awkward situation.
"Well, I can't say this was exactly how I'd planned to meet your dad, but you have to admit that it could've been worse," she pointed out, taking a seat next to him. She turned on the sofa so that her legs were curled up underneath her and she was sideways, facing Tad. "Really, I'm fine. A little awkward, but not too creeped out," she added, with an impish smile.
"I swear I don't bring girls home all the time, my dad's just awkward sometimes,"
Brooke laughed a little at this. She knew that he hadn't meant the comment in the way it had come out. She figured that he'd just been saying pretty much anything to fill in the awkward silence that would have ensued otherwise. Before she had a chance to respond, Tad continued.
"And I realize this all could have been less shocking if I'd mentioned my dad was a gay bachelor before hand, but I just couldn't think of a casual way to slip my dad likes other guys into the conversation."
This she could understand. Of course, now it all made a lot more sense. Why he was so involved in the GSA, at least, and why he had fit right in with some of the more 'alternative lifestyle' people at their school.
"I understand," she said, letting him know right away that she didn't blame him for not telling her. She wish he had felt comfortable enough to mention it before, but she understood how he wasn't. "I mean, I don't- I'm not one to judge," she said. "I was just a little caught off guard, is all." Brooke shrugged. She didn't really know what else to say about the situation. It had been weird, and now it was over.

Tad smiled at her, relieved slightly by her words. He was afraid. . .well of all sorts of things. That she'd take his dad seriously. His dad might have been half serious about the comment anyway. Once before they'd moved here, he'd brought home a girl that wasn't his girlfriend. . .and well things had gone down hill from there. Although in his defense he had tried to dump his girlfriend earlier that week, but she hadn't taken the hint. Or rather she had chosen to ignore it.
He was also glad to see that she was handling her dad's queer-ity? nicely. Some people didn't handle that very well, but then again Brooke worked on Liberty Avenue, she was probably used to it.
"Well, good," he said unable to think of anything else to say. "And thanks y'know for not running out of the house or going Oedipus on me." ((Y'know the whole eye gouging thing))
He was lucky to have found Brooke he realized. Another girl might have been more awkward about the whole thing. He reached out a hand and pushed her hair away from her face a little. He then leaned in and kissed her. He made to move forward a little, to get closer to her when he heard movement and voices in the hallway. He glanced over to see what was going on.
Jon followed a still unruffled Marc towards the door. The other man, a tall olive skinned, black haired man whose toned frame was visible to them as he still didn't have a shirt on, was pulling Jon by the belt loops on his jeans. He was obviously the younger of the two: anywhere from 27-33. He pulled Jon close to him at the door way and Tad realized his dad was holding his shirt around him. Marc slid his arms into it, grinning seductively as he did so, and right after Jon had finished buttoning up the pinstriped shirt, he kissed him on the lips.
"Call me sometime," he said, smacking his ass playfully.
He then turned to open the door and stepped out into the hallway. He waved goodbye, and Jon shut the door smiling and waved back. He sighed and blushed when he saw the two of them and then hastily made his way back to his bedroom.
Tadhg sighed too, and flopped backwards onto the cushions. Contorting his face into an akward expression of disgust, embarrassment and confusion.
"No one should ever have to see there parents having a one night stand," he said exasperatedly.

"Well, good. And thanks y'know for not running out of the house or going Oedipus on me."
Brooke laughed a little. "I'm not going to lie," she half-joked. "It was a tempting thought." She was joking about the gouging her eyes out part, and only half-joking about running away in fear. She had been afraid that his dad would be angry at her for walking in on him like that, even though it wasn't entirely her fault, and completely avoiding the awkward confrontation had seemed like a very good idea at first. Gladly, she thought better of it.
"Come on, it'll take more than that to scare me away," she said. "You'll have to get more creative to get rid of me," she joked, hoping to ease the awkwardness of the situation.
Tadhg pushed a stray strand of hair out of her face before kissing her. Brooke kissed back, her lips curling into a slight smile against his. She loved every minute she spent with Tadhg. The two of them just seemed to mesh so well together, and even though she just met him two weeks ago it seemed like she'd been friends with him her entire life. It was nice to feel so comfortable around someone else that she was able to let her guard down.
It was just then that Tadhg's dad came back out into the hallway, and Tadhg pulled away to watch the scene unfold. There was some getting dressed to be done, a few words exchanged, and the whole thing ended with Jon getting a nice slap on the butt. Awkward. She noticed Jon blush as he saw her sitting there, then disspear back into his room.
"No one should ever have to see there parents having a one night stand,"
"I'm not going to argue with you on that one," Brooke decided, knowing that there wasn't a whole lot she could say to make the situation better for him.
