Kyan was in the kitchen, getting himself a spoon so he could eat some Ben and Jerry's from the freezer. He had a quart of Stephen Colbert's new flavoured ice cream. His parents were in the living room aka one room over.
He was in his pajamas already: tonight being one of his nights off, and he had decided it would be best if he was there when Toby got there. He had on a pair of blue plaid, cotton pants and that about summed it up. His sister complained for him to put a shirt on. . .the same as every night, but as usual he told her to go fuck herself--lovingly of course. Oh little Susie High School. . .she could deal with it. . It was almost 7:45 now and he wondered where the hell Toby was. ((He went over to Ravi's so I'm just guestimating a time here)) He wasn't eager or anything. . .or perhaps he was. What if Ravi had accosted him again. . .or his father. . .or one or both of the Evans brothers? He shook his head slightly. . .here he was being ridiculous. He really should talk to a shrink or something about this.
Maybe he could just tell his parents Toby would be staying with them awhile.

Tobias was considerably worse off now than he had been at the beginning of the day. He hadn’t gone back to work, having called in to tell them about Ravi’s situation concerning Desmond and the fact that he felt compelled to stay with his friend to comfort him. His boss was fine with it; it was a slow night at work. After spending a while at Ravi’s house, helping him deal with Desmond’s suicide attempt, he went to work, grabbed his school stuff and his duffel bag of clothing and what little money he had left before heading to Kyan’s.
The directions were easy enough to follow, and he was there at around 7:50. He hoped that Kyan hadn’t been waiting, or worried because he was late, or… no, he was being stupid. Of course Kyan wouldn’t care. But hopefully he’d talked to his parents in the meantime. Toby was still a little nervous about the whole thing, but he had long since run out of options.
He showed up and saw Kyan through the window. Just the same, he stopped and rang the doorbell.

Kyan heard the doorbell ring and said, "I've got it," before anyone else bothered to get up. He walked over to the door, barefoot and with the ice cream still in tow. As he opened it, he smirked.
"It's about time," he commented carelessly. "Come on in. Just throw your shit on the floor a while, I'll be right back."
He walked down the hall, leaving Toby to stand there while his sister eyed him curiously. He entered the living room: where his parents were. He poked his head inside and said,
"So yeah, a friend of mine is here. He needs a place to stay for a while because his dad kicked him out. I told him he could stay here," he said.
His parents began to protest at his lack of forewarning, but he shot them a meaningful look.
"This is important all right? He needs a place to crash," he said.
At length they conceded, and he walked back out to where Toby was standing. He ate another spoonful of his ice cream and motioned to the room beside the kitchen.
"That's the living room," he said. "There's a pull out couch in there. And I squared evreything away with my parents: it's cool."

"It's about time. Come on in. Just throw your shit on the floor a while, I'll be right back."
Tobias obeyed without question, placing his bag down by the door as Kyan walked off into the other room. Toby realized that he hadn't told his parents about him staying for a few days yet, and that he was just about to. Without realizing it, he held his breath as he listened in on the conversation.
"So yeah, a friend of mine is here. He needs a place to stay for a while because his dad kicked him out. I told him he could stay here,"
Toby started to listen but then noticed Kyan's little sister giving him an odd look. "Ummm... hey," he said, offering her a small wave. This was definitely going to be weird.
"This is important all right? He needs a place to crash,"
Toby heard the words and smiled. He seemed to mean what he said, which meant that at least he cared about Toby's living situation, if not Toby himself. Not that he expected for Kyan to suddenly get all sentimental, but the idea of him being nice was, well, nice.
"That's the living room," he said. "There's a pull out couch in there. And I squared evreything away with my parents: it's cool."
"Okay, thanks," Toby said, picking up his bag and walking it over next to the couch that would be serving as his bed. It sure beat the sofa at work in the break room. "What's your sister's name?" he asked curiously. Obviously he'd call his parents Mr. and Mrs. Walker...

"Oh her?" Kyan said with overly dramatic disdain. "That's Olivia. . .((ha it really is her name I looked it up.)) she's an 8th grader. . . just pay her no mind."
((What is it with my and changing all the Walkers ages?)) His sister glared at him huffily, and went back to watching Zoey 101 or Unfabulous or whatever ridiculous shit she watched on tv these days.
"Did you eat yet?" he asked.

Tobias looked over at her as she glared at her older brother. "Hey Olivia," he said, smiling slightly and waving to her. He didn't want Kyan's family to hate him, especially if he was going to be there for a few days... or weeks... he needed to save up enough money for a shithole apartment or something...
"Did you eat yet?"
"Yeah," he lied. He'd spent his whole break and then some with Ravi, and hadn't found time to eat. He didn't want to take any of Kyan's food, though. He felt like he was mooching off of them enough as it was.
"Sorry I was so late... I ran into... complications."

"Are you sure you don't want anything?" Kyan offered once more. "We have left overs that I really don't feel like eating again tomorrow."
"Sorry I was so late... I ran into... complications."
Kyan raised an eyebrow curiously, but kept his voice as void of interest as he could manage. He didn't want to sound like he might have actually been concerned.
"You're not that late," he said. "And what kindof complications?"

"Are you sure you don't want anything? We have left overs that I really don't feel like eating again tomorrow."
Tobias seriously considered it, but again decided against it. Even leftovers... he had a feeling that Kyan would've lied about the food just so he'd eat it. He didn't want anything like that to happen because then he'd just regret it later. No, he'd supply his own food while he stayed there. It was bad enough he was using their home. "No, really... it's cool," Toby said again.
You're not that late. And what kindof complications?"
Tobias laughed a little. "I'm 45 minutes later than I told you I'd be," he pointed out, but realized that Kyan probably didn't care. After all, he had a normal routine that apparently involved eating icecream shirtless, which he continued as if Toby wasn't even there. "And I was making sure Ravi was okay, because he didn't show up for work, when he got a call from someone who told him cousin tried to commit suicide," he tried to play it off as casual, but he knew it was anything but. Not that Kyan would care. "I drove him over to the Hospital to visit and stuff..."

Kyan shrugged almost helplessly when Toby declined his offer for food once again. He almost seemed to decline every offer he made. . .which gave him a moment's pause, but again he shrugged it off. He knew Toby was quite a bit later than he'd said, but he didn't want to sound like he'd been worrying or interested, it wasn't part of his indifferent, carefree persona that he'd developed over the years.
"And I was making sure Ravi was okay, because he didn't show up for work, when he got a call from someone who told him cousin tried to commit suicide. I drove him over to the Hospital to visit and stuff..."
Kyan was about to roll his eyes and sigh exasperatedly, at Ravi's overly dramatic reaction by not showing up to work, when Toby mentioned that his cousin had attempted suicide.
"Jesus," Kyan said. "That emo kid, Desmond? Well I can understand why you were late. I mean. .. fuck. . .that's some heavy shit."
Kyan couldn't imagine having to deal with something like that. In all honesty, he'd probably just go into denial.

"Jesus," Kyan said. "That emo kid, Desmond? Well I can understand why you were late. I mean. .. fuck. . .that's some heavy shit."
Tobias nodded. It had been some heavy stuff, actually, and he just always happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. After all, he had tons to deal with as it was! Now on top of everything else he was worrying over Ravi and how he's doing, and Desmond as well even though he didn't know him at all. It was all very soap-opera-y.
"Yeah... he got the call while I was over, and he seemed pretty shooken up over it. Desmond's in the hospital, though, and they said he'll probably be fine, but still... it was pretty messed up." Tobias hadn't actually gone in the room with Ravi, he'd just walked him into the waiting room where the rest of his family was, then left.

"Wow sounds like you've had yourself a busy day," Kyan said sympathetically.
He put his ice cream down on the counter and slid a hand around Toby's shoulder, subtly. He didn't know what to say besides that. what else could you say when someone you only vaguely knew tried to commit suicide.
"So, umm why don't I show you around the house, so you know where everything is?" he asked , holding out a hand to gesture towards the hallway.

"Wow sounds like you've had yourself a busy day,"
Tobias felt Kyan's hand slip around his shoulder and rest there. It had been a busy day. So much had gone on, both good and bad, and it seemed like things were never going to be quite the same ever again.
"Yeah, well... it's over now," he pointed out, as the sun had begun to set and it seemed like this day was finally coming to an end.
"So, umm why don't I show you around the house, so you know where everything is?"
Tobias looked down the hallway to where Kyan had motioned and nodded. "Sure, I guess that'd be a good idea." As long as Toby knew which rooms were which, he could avoid walking into somewhere he didn't belong. That would be horrible, especially since he was a guest here.

Kyan led the way down the hall, stopping at the first door. He pushed it opened to reveal a small bathroom. . .aka powder room. "If you have to take a piss,' Kyan said with a small smirk. "This is the bathroom. And down on the the left will take you out to the garage, right across from it are the washer and dryer. . .and before you refuse: your using them." There was no door to get to the laundry area, just a frame. He then led Toby across the living room. He spoke quickly to his parents, saying, "Just giving him a tour," as he did so. He didn't want his parents to stop Toby to question him just yet. Besides Toby might let a guilt tip take hold of him if they did. "And up here," he said, going up the carpeted stairwell. "Are the bedrooms. . . the one down the hall is Olivia's: I'll spare you the trip. Next to it is another bathroom. This one has the shower in it." He opened the door again to show him the general idea of what it was like. He also stopped briefly otuside the master bedroom, feeling it needed no explaining really: it was the biggest bedroom. He then stopped outside of his own bedroom. "This one's mine," he said, resting his hand on the doorknob gently. "You might want to know that in case you get lonely on that couch." He raised an eyebrow mischievously as he opened the door. It wasn't the typical teen bedroom, but then again Kyan wasn't a typical teen. He'd matured before his time. The walls were black with white intersecting lines, and the wood work and curtains were also white. The bed had no head or foot board and had a black sheet with a grey comforter. Next to the bed was a slick black night stand. His bureau matched the nightstand, and off to the corner of the room was a silver floor lamp. He had a walk-in closet in the opposite corner. All in all, he was proud of his room. "I know an interior designer,' he commented. He used the term know loosely. He;d fucked an interior designer at Babylon and cashed in this favor when his parents had said he could remake his room.

"Alright," he agreed, making a mental note about the bathroom. That would probably be the most important room in the house for him, as it would be the one he'd need the most.
"Just giving him a tour,"
Tobias really wanted to tell Kyan's parents thanks for letting him stay there on such short notice, but Kyan was already dragging him away from the room before either of them had a chance to speak.
"Thanks for letting me stay here," he managed to squeak out before Kyan led him to the next room. He figured he'd have plenty of time to talk to his parents later, and he intended to pay them something by way of rent.
Next came the bedrooms and the master bath. He supposed he'd have to start showering here as well... maybe he'd sneak home and steal back his shampoo and body wash. Toby hadn't noticed how much he loved those little things until they were gone.
"This one's mine. You might want to know that in case you get lonely on that couch."
Tobias laughed a little, even though he wasn't sure if Kyan was joking. Then he opened the door and Toby was caught off guard.
"Holy shit," he said. "I don't care who you know, this has got to be the coolest room I've ever seen," he admitted.

Kyan smirked, glad that Toby liked his room. If he played his cards right, he'd be in it. . . .lying on his stomach soon enough.
With that thought in his head, he leaned forward and pressed him up against the door frame. He grabbed his chin with his right hand and kissed him on the lips. His mouth was open as he did so. He loved taking Toby by surprise like this for some reason or another. He pulled away, grinning as usual.
"Glad you like it," he said, closing the door and beginning to head down the hallway. "I guess you want to talk to my paretns or something now?"

Tobias barely had time to take in everything about Kyan’s amazing room when he was being pushed up against the doorframe. Before he knew what was happening Kyan’s hand was holding up his chin, forcing Toby to look up as Kyan moved in to kiss him. Of course, by this point he had stopped trying to resist and just allowed the kiss to happen, returning it as best he could despite his shock.
"Glad you like it," he said, closing the door and beginning to head down the hallway. "I guess you want to talk to my paretns or something now?”
Tobias laughed a little, unable to understand how Kyan could make these sorts of transitions. ‘Nice room’ ‘make out’ ‘wanna talk to my parents?’. It was all very foreign to him, and Toby couldn’t help but wonder if he’d be caught off guard with these PDA’s all the time now that he was staying there.
“It’d be nice. Just to introduce myself or something…” he said, shrugging. After all, it was their house he’d be staying in.

"All right," Kyan said with a shrug, going down the stairwell. "But I warn you, they're not very bright or interesting."
He led the way back down stairs and into the living room. He ignored his little sister as he passed, something he had grown accustomed to doing. It was easier for him than starting a fight with her. He walked over to the couch and put a hand on his hip.
"Mom, dad, a moment of your time, please," he said. "This is Toby, the boy who will be staying here for a while."
His mother smiled politely at Toby and his father merely inclined his head.
Do you have blankets or anything to sleep with? his mother asked, her voice higher pitched, but all too motherly.

"But I warn you, they're not very bright or interesting."
Tobias gave Kyan's little sister a small smile as they walked by, despite the fact that Kyan obviously didn't want anything to do with her. There wasn't a whole lot more he could do at the moment because Kyan was already entering the kitchen and speaking to his parents.
"Mom, dad, a moment of your time, please," he said. "This is Toby, the boy who will be staying here for a while."
"It's nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Walker. Thanks for letting me stay," he said kindly, but without getting mushy about it. "I promise, I'll be out of here as soon as possible," he added, not wanting them to think he was going to slack off and live here forever.
Do you have blankets or anything to sleep with?
"Yeah, I'm fine," Toby said. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a few rather crumpled bills. It was a total of $40, and it was all he had to his name. "Listen, here. Take this... for water and utilities and stuff," he said, pressing it into Mrs. Walker's hand (since she seemed to be the friendlier of the two).

Kyan's mother looked at the money in her hand, and shook her head at him, still smiling. His father even allowed a grin to settle on his face. This boy wasn't so bad: he was willing to pay for his share.
Oh no, I couldn't take this. No, you're welcome to stay here. So long as you don't blow the place up, that's payment enough.
She chuckled at her own little joke and gave the money back to Tobey.
You keep that, and use it for something important. . .or nice. . .or you just plain want.
Kyan rolled his eyes at his mother in an accepting way. His parents had the right ideas. . .they were just well parents.

Tobias tried to argue, but he knew when he was overpowered. When it came to adults and accepting money, well, it was hard to stop them from being so damn stubborn all the time. He supposed that it was the thought that counted, though. He really had wanted to pay for his share of things, but if they weren't going to let him then he'd just wait. He'd find ways to slip them money, leaving it around the house or something.
"Thank you," he repeated, grateful for their generosity. He couldn't believe that his parents could be so judgemental by kicking him out, while someone else could be so genuinely nice and allow him to live there, when he wasn't even their own flesh and blood. Just went to show that everyone was different.
You keep that, and use it for something important. . .or nice. . .or you just plain want.
Tobias nodded, accepting the money back without fighting them about it. It would've been a waste of breath.
"I'll try to be as unobtrusive as possible," he offered, as though that made up for them not accepting his money, then turned to look at Kyan as he was unsure of what to do next. He supposed he should just retreat to the living room couch which was his new home...
