A new look

[brooke]

Brooke entered the Salon with Tadhg following behind her. She knew the people who worked here very well, and since it was during a weekday the place was empty.

"Hey, Jewel!" Brooke called, waiting for her friend to come out. The lady who came out was about 27 or 28, and she was smiling.

"Shouldn't you be in school?" Jewel asked.

"Yes, but this is more important right now. I need a new look."

And so it began.

Tad followed behind Brooke looking around the hair salon with mild interest. He had his hands in his pants pockets, throwing the front of his jacket open. He loosened his tie as he plopped himself down in a red covered chair.

Brooke seemed to have things under control, so he got himself comfortable, throwing his legs up over the one leg and resting his shoulders against the other leg.

Brooke, even though she'd just met him, felt oddly comfortable around Tadhg. The way the two had just decided to skip school made her almost feel like they'd been friends forever.

"They have magazines over there," she said to Tadhg, figuring that he might get a little bored now that the excitement of skipping was starting to wear off.

"He's new here," she said to Jewel as she sat in the chair. "So, shorter. Not too short, maybe shoulder length? And... brown."

She looked over at Tadhg, as though trying to gauge his reaction.

Tad looked over at the magazines. . .mostly GQs and other female oriented issues. He found one with Ewan McGRegor on it which seemed to have more to do with motor cycles than guys, s ohe picked it up. He'd always secretly wanted a motorcycle, but wasn't allowed to ride one till he was 18.

"Newb. . ." Tad mouthed jokingly, pointing at himself. "Feeling daring today? Are you going dark brown or light?"

[brooke]

Brooke paused, looking at her reflection in the mirror. Her blonde hair... oh, it was so weird. She could go safe with a lighter, brighter blond, but...

"Dark brown," she said, nodding. She sat there while the dye was cut. What used to be halfway down her back was quickly layered and around shoulder length. She took a deep breath, and turned to face Tad before it was dyed.

"Wow..." she said, looking on the floor where all of the cut off hair was.

"Deffinitely seeing a difference already," Tad said, looking up from his magazine. "It looks nice."

((btw. . .the dye is done first. . . .then the cutting. . .I sepak from lots of experience.))

[brooke]

((ooc- lame. I wouldn't know. That seems stupid, though... oh well.))

Brooke nodded as the dye was prepared, and then closed her eyes as the hairdresser did... whatever it was that hairdressers do when they dye hair. She waited anxiously, hoping that it would turn out well... she hadn't thought about what her parents were going to say until just that moment, but tried to ignore the question. She didn't care. She needed to do this.

Some time later, (roughly thirty minutes, I'm guessing... there was small talk involved, I'm sure), it was done. This was signalled by the timer going off. Brooke opened her eyes and looked in the mirror.

"Oh, wow," she said, stunned.

((I think it has something to do with washing. . .wet hair cutting. . .I don't try to understand these things.))

Tad looked up from his magazine and blushed slightly, but quickly turned it into a grin.

"Nice. . I like it. It makes you look. . ." hot. . .sexy. . . "Pretty. not that you weren't already or anything"

He shook his head at himself and pulled the magazine up in fron tof his face.

Brooke pretended not to notice the immediate blush, however muched it pleased her. Tadhg's smile caused her to smile as well as Tad responded.

She laughed at his comment, knowing what he had meant even if it hadn't come out quite right. "Thanks," she said, and meant it.

Jewel laughed as well, shaking her head. "Well, I think it looks fantastic as well. You don't get enough people going brunette these days."

Brooke nodded. "Yeah, well, it's quite liberating," she replied as she checked herself out in the mirror once more before paying. She looked to see what Tadhg was doing.

Tad looked up to see that the process was over. He tossed the magazine over behind his head and hoped it landed on the pile. . .or at least on the table. He slowly got into a proper sitting position and took a moment to check out the new Brooke.

He deffinitely liked the change, but probably shouldn't mention the fact that brunettes were more his type to Brooke.

"So, miss rebellion, what now?"

[brooke]

Brooke was glad that Tad liked her new look. It was him that she was now trying to impress, she had figured out, or else she wouldn't have cared how much what he thought of her. She didn't say that, though.

"Miss rebellion?" she laughed. ((ooc- I had a huge urge to put in a 'Miss Independent' joke in, but I won't)) "Nice. Well, I don't know. We could still make it back for the second half of the day, but... well, I don't feel much like going to school any more." Brooke waited to see what Tadhg would react. If he wanted to go back to school she would, but skipping sounded more fun at the moment. She was caught up in the moment.

"Go back?" tad asked in a disgusted voice. "When we've got a perfectly good day of skipping ahead of us?"

[brooke]

Brooke gave him a broad smile. "I was hoping you'd say that," she admitted. "So, what shall we do now? I've got to go show off my new look somewhere..."

[Tadhg Kelly]

Tad found himself hoping she wouldn't want to show off for other guys. HE couldn't stop looking at her. She was so hot with brown hair. He'd thought she was pretty before, sure, but now she was stunning.

"We could go to the mall, or grab something to eat," he said with a shrug. "the choice is yours. Lead away, oh captain my captain."

[brooke]

"Or," she replied smartly, "we could grab something to eat at the mall." Brooke laughed a little. "Sound like a plan?" In truth, she didn't care what anyone else thought about her new look, but the idea that Tad might get a little jealous... that might work in her favor.

She smiled at the 'Dead Poet Society' reference. "Nice. I wish there was a desk to stand on," she added, with a wink.

"Ingenious," Tad said in corny tones. "Yep, sounds like a plan."

"Well, since we lacka desk I guess we'll just have to find ourselves a sweaty toothed madman at the mall."

[brooke]

Brooke couldn't believe the amount of stuff she had in common with Tadhg. It seemed like the more time she spent around him, the more she realized that if he had lived here her whole life she probably would've befriended him ages ago... then again, Blane probably would've beated him up back then as well.

"Nice. I just have to make sure I'm back by 4:00. I have to work tonight. Not that I can really consider working at the Comic Book shop a *job*, since it's like a second home to me."

[Tadhg Kelly]

"Working at a place like that does seem like it would be interesting and fun. Especially since you're friends with the head clerk guy," he agreed. "Yeah I should get back around then anyway. My dad'll start to freak out if I'm not back early: he's afraid I'm going to come back in a body bag soon."

He laughed as he said the comment abou the body bag, but wasn't entirely certain if it was too far from the truth."

[brooke]

Brooke laughed a little as well, albiet nervously. She was afraid for Tadhg, because he seemed to attract trouble with Blane now. Not good, especially because the two of them were hanging out even more now. She wondered if Blane even cared any more, though...

"Yeah, Mr. Novotny's amazing. You should stop by when I'm working again... there are tons of times when there isn't anybody else in there, and I could show you all the new stuff we get in." Brooke laughed. "I'm such a comic book nerd. Who would've guessed?" She knew that, especially being a cheerleader, she didn't really look the part.

"I didn't se ethat coming," Tad said in overly surprised tones.

He hoped she understood he was just trying to tease her. There went that whole cheerleader comment again, but she had asked him to skip school with her today. . .maybe he should just listen to the better part of what Desmond and Audrey had been saying yesterday.

"I'll have to stop by some time, I need some new comics anyway>"

[brooke]

Brooke knew that he was just teasing here. After all, she was taunted by her more popular friends all the time about her love of comic books, so why shouldn't her friends who love comic books taunt her about being popular and a cheerleader? She was used to it, and not much bothered her any more now that she was more secure about who she was.

"Yeah, don't be afraid to stop by," she said, smiling. She loved it when people she knew stopped by work. "Michael won't mind. Especially if you plan on buying stuff."
