Grace pretty much hated her life. She had known she was pregnant since the summer, but hadn't told anybody other than her parents. She went to St. James like she always had, but last month she had started to show. By the end of September it had been obvious that she was pregnant, and by the middle of October she'd been transfered to GW, the public school, because they didn't want a pregnant girl (who had obviously had premarital sex) ruining their good catholic reputation.
It was her first day here at GW, and she was now at the time she dreaded the most: lunch. She didn't know anybody, and people were hesitant to befriend the new girl, which was probably not helped by the fact that she was pregnant. For some reason that was frowned upon in society. Who knew?
"It's not like I'm contageous," she muttered to herself as she held her tray awkwardly above her round stomach, searching for an empty seat. By now everybody had their usual spots, and she couldn't even spot an empty table. All Grace wanted to do was cry at this point...

"You can catch pregnant?" Jack Sullivan asked, seeing the girls staring at the crowd of students.
He hadn't seen her before, but then again he'd only gotten to the school a few weeks ago himself.
"You need somewhere to sit?" he asked, as usual his words slightly altered with his New York accent.

Grace looked up to see a boy come up beside her. She supposed it was kind of hard to miss the pregnant girl. Stop that, she reprimanded herself. You can't assume everyone is judging you, or you'll never make any friends. It was good advice, and she decided to take it. Unfortunately, this boy had already heard her talking cynically to herself.
"You can catch pregnant?"
"Oh, you heard that?" she said, blushing. "Sorry, it's just... rough first day..." she said, trailing off at the end.
"You need somewhere to sit?"
"More than anything in the world," she said quickly, before the boy could change his mind and take back the offer. If it was an offer at all. Hopefully he wasn't one of those jerks who would say something sarcastic like 'well, you should go find one then', or something.
"My name's Gracelyn, Grace or Gracie for short," she said. "Thanks," she added.

Lunch. Lunch. Lunch. LunchLunchLunchLunchLunch. December sang in his head. He always had the strangest inspiration for songs. Probably one of the reasons he had a hard time finding a place to sit at lunch. There was his strange songs, his nack for suddenly turning his meal into sculptures of random things, and people seemed to find it strange when he asked to take a picture of them.
He wondered curiously through the cafeteria with his olive green messenger bag on his shoulder that carried his note book for lyrics and poetry and his camera around his neck on its rainbow strap that was heavy with buttons. He got vibes from certain tables as he walked by, most of them bad, but there was one table he was getting good vibes from. There was a boy and a girl who appeared to be pregnant sitting there. Something about the pregnant girl made December feel compelled to take a picture of her
"Excuse me." said December to the girl, "do you mind if I take a picture of you?"

(And then they were sitting down at a table!)
Grace had just sat down at the table Jack showed her to. She assumed that this was where he normally ate lunch, and she wondered if anybody else usually sat there with him. If they did, would they mind her being there? She really did hate being the new girl, and even though being new only lasted so long she wondered if she'd ever find her niche here.
It was just then that a boy came up to their table. At first she assumed that he must have been a friend of Jack's, but then she realized that he wasn't. Or at least, if he was, he didn't greet him in any way. Instead, he seemed more interested in her.
"Excuse me, do you mind if I take a picture of you?"
Grace's first thought was to say no, for him to just leave her alone, when she realized that just a moment ago she was praying for some people to talk to her. Now, when someone was showing an interested in her, was she really going to turn them away? The boy seemed nice enough. He was polite, at the very least.
"I... well, I guess so. I don't see why not," she clarified, hoping she didn't sound too awkward about the whole thing. She just didn't know why he'd want a picture of her, or what he would use it for.

"Great." said December with a smile, getting his camera ready. "You don't have to pose or anything, just act natural." Click. December got the perfect shot. "Thank you. Just something about you seemed so beautiful, I just had to take a picture." The girl was probably going to assume it was because she was pregnant, but there was more to it than that. She had been giving out very positive vibes. It was just an Ora the December couldn't ignore. Plus she was just genuinely a very beautiful girl. "I'm December." he said holding out a hand for the girl to shake.

((So about Jack. . .y'know existing. . .))
"Oh, you heard that?" she said, blushing. "Sorry, it's just... rough first day..."
"Don't sweat it," Jack said taking a seat at his usual lunch table. "So it's ya first day? I only got here a few weeks ago myself. Don't worry, things'll die down after a while."
"My name's Gracelyn, Grace or Gracie for short," she said. "Thanks," she added.
"Jack Sullivan," he said with a wry grin. "And ya welcome."
He realized that part of the reason he was grinning was to do with the fact that despite her showing what month she was in, she was actually quite pretty. Just then some other guy came over and practically. . . no actually ignored him so that he could take Grace's picture. He complimented her on her beauty and introduced himself to her. Ad though he barely knew her, JAck coudl feel a hint of jealousy. This was bizarre. . .he had just barely gotten over Jo and David, and here he was, making the same mistakes all over again.
He frowned at the kid who had come to the table, but didn't say anything. After all, he'd come to talk to Grace, and she was the one being adressed.

"Don't sweat it,"
Grace was glad that he wasn’t going to hold her cynical comments against her. She knew that she should try and be more positive about this whole thing, but it was difficult. She hadn’t minded St. James, she had plenty of friends there, and now she had to start all over again in the middle of her senior year. It sucked.
"So it's ya first day? I only got here a few weeks ago myself. Don't worry, things'll die down after a while."
Grace nodded, taking a bite of her bagel sandwich. “Yeah, my first day here. I just got transferred from St. James,” she added. “You’re new this year too?” it was a convenient coincidence. In meeting someone else who was new this year, he would know exactly what she was going through. By his accent she could tell that the boy wasn’t from around here either, so it had probably been more of a transition for him than this was for her.
"Jack Sullivan, and ya welcome."
Grace had been about to reply to that when December had come over and taken her picture.
"You don't have to pose or anything, just act natural."
She barely had time to register the information when there was a click and the picture was taken. She didn’t mind getting her picture taken, though she could only hope that it wasn’t going to be for anything weird.
"Thank you. Just something about you seemed so beautiful, I just had to take a picture."
This caused Grace to blush again. She was doing an awful lot of that today. Again, the boy seemed to be genuine about his compliment, which only made her blush even more. Not that he was interested in her, but that didn’t even matter. Just the fact that someone could find her beautiful, despite (or perhaps even because) she was pregnant was a miracle in itself. She didn’t know what to say, so she hoped her smile said it all.
"I'm December."
“Gracelyn,” she said, shaking his hand and wondering why she kept giving her full name. “But most people just call me Grace. This is Jack,” she added, feeling bad about holding this conversation excluding him when he’d been the one to offer her a seat when she’d been standing there alone.

"Very nice to meet you Grace, you too Jack." December had completely forgotten about the boy at the table. He hadn't purposely ignored him, he'd just been overwhelmed by Grace's aura. Jack was a good looking fellow, not that it mattered to December; he didn't judge people base upon looks. The guy did seem a bit rough around the edges, but December didn't get any negative vibes from him.
"There really isn't a shorten form of my name. . ." said December thoughtfully, "I've never thought about it really. . . I guess Ember could work, but I do like my name. . . not something you hear all the time. . . unless it's around Christmas. . ." Now December was talking more to himself than Grace and Jack. He had the tendency to do that some times. Just another reason why people normally didn't sit with him at lunch. "Well, It was very nice meeting you two." said December coming out of his little trance. "I should probably go find some where to eat. Maybe I'll just sit on the floor again. . . that's always a cool angle for photos. . ."

((Pow and then I changed the sigs))
“You’re new this year too?”
"Yeah I transfered here from Brooklyn, when my fadder died," he explained.
In all actuality, Jack was an orphan now, not that it mattered much since he'd practically been one even when his father was still alive. His father spent most of his time drunk or in a jail cell. He lived in a crappy little apartment that he paid for himself with his paper route money. He might have to take another job soon to start making enough for food too.
He relaxed a little once he'd been brought back into the conversation. He merely nodded his head when she introduced him, eying December carefully. He was an okay looking kid, but as he had reminded himself before, he wasn't in the market for relationships just now. He should really give his heart a rest after he'd been scorned by Jo, the girl he had thought he loved, two years ago and had to break up with David, the walking mouth, before he came here. That had ended in an argument and tears on his part, and he wondered if David would even write to him.
He shook his head and looked over at the two, they were talking and he should be paying attention, not reminiscing. He noticed the way the girl, Grace blushed and grinned despite his little inner debate just now. The guy, Dismember. . .no December, he'd just said. . .was right she was pretty nice to look at.
"There really isn't a shorten form of my name. . . I've never thought about it really. . . I guess Ember could work, but I do like my name. . . not something you hear all the time. . . unless it's around Christmas. . ."
"You could just go wit' Dec. Like da month's abbreviation," he said with a grin. This kid sure liked to talk. .. a lot. He mentioned something about sitting on the floor for camera angles. "So whaddaya? The school's paparazzi?"
He didn't know if this school even had a paparazzi-esque figure, but if there was one, he assumed it woudl be this guy.

"So whaddaya? The school's paparazzi?"
December blinked at Jack. "Oh, I'm sorry," he said, "I don't speak Italian. . . I wish I did. . . that would be so cool. . . ." December momentarily went off into his own little fantasy of him sing a song he wrote in Italian. "It would be really cool for music. . . "

Jack stared blankly at December. True enough paparazzi was an Italian word, but it was a fairly common term.
"I wasn't speakin' Italian," he said. "Paparazzi's like press photography."
He quirked an eyebrow at Grace, and an idea struck him. It was a long complicated series of thoughts that led this idea: a sort of chain form paparazzi to professional photography to photographers at events to the dance coming up this week. Jack hadn't really planned on doing much about it. He was going to brave the idea of showing up by himself, mostly just make an appearance, and see if there was any free food, but here was an opportunity. Neither one of them really knew anyone else at the school all too well, so it might be nice to go with someone else in almost the same position.
"Hey Grace," he said. "Ya just got here right? Well der's this Homecomin' dance comin' up and I thought maybe since we were both new. . .we could brave it togedder. That is, if ya up for it."

Grace listened as December said he would probably go sit and eat lunch on the floor, which was apparently a nice angle to take pictures from. She felt bad that he was going to go eat all alone, since she had been dreading that very thing just moments ago. She was about to ask if maybe he'd like to stay and eat lunch with her and Jack when Jack asked her a question.
"Hey Grace," he said. "Ya just got here right? Well der's this Homecomin' dance comin' up and I thought maybe since we were both new. . .we could brave it togedder. That is, if ya up for it."
Grace thought that the offer was too good to be true. Of course, he was probably just asking her to be nice, since she obviously didn't have any friends here yet. She hoped that he wasn't just doing it as a pity date, because she would have hated that... but something about the way he asked made her feel as though, if anything, he wanted to go as friends. No pity involved.
"Homecoming, you say?" she repeated, stalling for time. "Well, I suppose... I mean, if you don't have anyone else to go with," she added, not wanting to seem too eager. "I'd like that."

"No, I ain't goin' with anyone else," he assured her. "Well dats great."
He took a bite of his sandwich and couldn't help but think on a question that had popped into his head. He looked over at her, and spoke conversationally.
"So. . .d'ya know if it's a boy or a girl, yet?" he asked.

"I think it's a boy." said December nodding his head slightly. "I'm sensing a boy. I'm usually right about these things. The one time I sensed that something bad was going to happen and ten minutes later the strap on my messenger bag broke and I lost my favorite pin. . . I really liked that pin too. . . I miss it. . . " December trailed off into his own thoughts like he normally did before snapping back to reality. "So what do you think it is?" he asked Grace.
