She's the Man

[Viola Hastings]

Viola walked on the stairwell, grabbing uncomfortably at her tie. Her scalp itched and so did te sideburns. . .not to mention the false eyebrows. God, this was annoying. She adjusted the strap on her carrier bag, and glanced around. This was unbelievably nerve racking. Someone was sure to notice something off about her. . .

She was dressed in the unofrm for St. James, having just transfered. Not three days ago, she'd learned that due to a decrease in interest for the girl's soccer team ( four girls had dropped out) GW had cut the team. So she'd told her paretns and asked for a transfer for the semester. After three days convincing, they'd agreed and here she was. Of course while explaining to her parents, she conveniently left out that St. James only had a boys soccer team. GW' steam wouldn't allow the girls to try out for the boys team, so when the transfer had been arranged, she'd called up Tadhg, to put her plan into action.

She had asked her parents to allow her Uncle Jon to arrange everything for her, as he was an influental exec at Vanguard. She'd been registered as Sebastian Kelly, Tad's brother who was visiting his father and brother for the semester. Tad's parents were divorced, so it seemed like a logical plan, now all she had to do was pull it off.

She really hoped the soccer team at St. JAmes was all it was cracked up to be.

[vinnie]

Vinnie wasn't paying much attention when he was walking up the stairs into school. He was a running a bit later than usual, not that he was going to me late for class or anything, he just liked being to school at a certain time. He had gotten himself so frazzled he hardly notice a boy in his way and practically knocked the poor kid to the ground.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" he said grabbing the kid by the upper arm and literally picking him up off the ground. "I didn't see you there. Hey. . . are you new?" Vinnie didn't remember seeing the guy around school before, but somehow he looked strangely familiar.

Viola felt herself fall to the ground, and then hefted back up. She looked up to see Vinnie and stammered a few moments before awkwardly clearing her throat.

"Oh uhh yeah, dude," she said in a slightly deepend voice. "I mean, yeh know, I uhh I just uhh came here to visit my brah. . .maybe yeh know him. . .Tad Kelly."

[vinnie]

"Y-your brah? . . . OH! You mean your brother, o ok." said Vinnie. He wasn't mocking the new kid or anything, he was verbally clarifying what he'd said for his own benefit. Everything about this kid just seemed awkward, but Vinnie wasn't the type to judge or make fun of people. He was just a nice guy like that. "Yeah, I know Tad, he's my friend. I guess that means Viola is you cousin then right?"

[Viola Hastings]

"I umm yeah I--she is," she said quickly. "So have you met . . .Viola then?"

She tried to sound as casual as she could, but she realized the advantges to being taken as a guy at this moment.

[vinnie]

"Yeah, I've met her." said Vinnie, "even before I knew she was Tad's cousin which is sort of ironic. She just kinda started talking to me in Starbucks the one day. She's really nice. There aren't many girls I find that I can just talk to." Just then a girl walked by and squealed 'hi Vinnie!' before running away, giggling like mad. "Yeah. . . mostly because of that. . . . I don't understand why they do that. . . hmmm. . . must be a girl thing."

[Viola Hastings]

"Psh we're not all like that," Viola said, her eyes widening slightly as she said so. "I mean they're not all like that. . .I mean girls yeh know? They can be pretty cuhrazy. Know what I'm sayin' brah?"

She chuckled awkwardly and turned around, rollign her eyes at herself as she did so.

"Y'know I guess I'll just catch ya lata then," she said. And then something hit her, she rememebred why she'd come in the first place. "Umm hey man, so uhh how would a new guy go about getting on the soccer team here?"

[vinnie]

This kid was so awkward. . . Vinnie felt like he had to be extra nice to the poor guy because he was sure that a lot of people were going to give him shit for being so, well, weird. No wonder Tad had never mentioned him. . . Now Vinnie felt bad for thinking that and felt the need to be even nicer to the kid.

"Umm hey man, so uhh how would a new guy go about getting on the soccer team here?"

"Well, you're in luck," said Vinnie, "try outs are after school today." Since the guy was so skinny Vinnie had to mentally question whether or not this kid was serious. "Oh, I'm Vinnie by the way." He held out his hand for the new kid to shake, "do you want me to show you around the school?"

[Viola Hastings]

"Shveet," she said at the mentioning that try outs were after school.

He offered her his hand to shake, and she stared at it for only a second before shaking it. It was bizarre having to meet him all over again for the first time.

"I'm Sebastian Kelly," she informed him.

"do you want me to show you around the school?"

"I uhh you don't have to or anything," she assured him. "I mean if you're busy I'm sure Tad can show me around."

[vinnie]

"It's very nice to meet you Sabastian." said Vinnie with a smile. Great, now I'm going to have that song from the Little Mermaid stuck in my head all day. . .Under the Sea do do do do, Under the sea, SHUT UP BRAIN!

"I uhh you don't have to or anything, I mean if you're busy I'm sure Tad can show me around."

Vinnie didn't see Tad anywhere. Maybe he should just let the kid wait for his brother, but that ran the risk of less friendly people running into him. "Are you sure? It's really no problem."

[Viola Hastings]

"Well, if it's not too much toruble," she said with a grin. Which she quickly wiped from her face, sh edidn't want everyone there to tink she was a gay guy. . .

"Thanks Ah really appreciate this," she said.

[vinnie]

"No problem." said Vinnie with a shrug, leading Sabastian up the steps. He was glad Sabastian had agreed to Let Vinnie help him; there had been a group of jocks just eying the poor kid up ready to pounce. "So, do you have your schedule yet or do you need to go to the office to get it?"

[Faye Prewett]

Faye was walking down the hallway when she spotted Vinnie, one of her fellow seniors, with a boy she didn't know. He was a little feminine, and she was sure she hadn’t seen him around before.

“Hey guys,” she said, smiling brightly at them. “You new here?” she asked the boy, having overheard talk of getting a schedule. “I’m Faye Prewett. A word to the wise, avoid a girl named Prudence. The name speaks for itself,” she added, figuring that if he needed any advice upon arriving at St. James it would be that. She’d just read one of Prudence’s stupid fliers, so it was on her mind still.

"Oh I already got my schedule," Viola said.

Just then some girl approached them. She informed them her name was Faye and that she should watch out for a girl named Prudence. Well that was good to get out of the way awhile: who she needed to avoid like the plague.

"Well hello there pretty lady," she said in a would-be-cool voice. "My name's Sebastian. And thanks for the advice. . . this is my first day."

[vinnie]

"H-h-h-hey Faye." said Vinnie breathlessly before clearing his throat and trying to act more manly. He'd had a crush on Faye since ninth grade, but had always been to nervous to admit it. What if she didn't like him back? Vinnie didn't think he could handle rejection. It was bad enough a few weeks ago when he mistakenly ask a lesbian out at Starbucks. "Um, yeah, Sebastian here is new. I was just showing him around."

"Well hello there pretty lady,"

Vinnie elbowed Sabastian in the arm. "Please be respectful." he muttered so that only Sabastian could hear. He just didn't like when guys talked to girls like that, it just didn't seem polite. "S-so, how are you Faye?"

[Viola Hastings]

"Oww," Viola said grudgingly. "Whatever. . ."

Vinnie was perhaps being his usual chivalrous self, but then again perhaps he had a crush on this girl. . .which wasn't so very an appealing option to her. She looked over to wait for Faye's response.

[Faye Prewett]

"H-h-h-hey Faye."

Faye hadn't minded Sebastian's comment, but apparently Vinnie did. She saw him elbow the new kid and shook her head a little. She knew that Vinnie liked her, at least a little. It was obvious in the way he always got nervous around her. She couldn't imagine why, though. He had every girl in the school fawning after him!

"S-so, how are you Faye?"

"I'm fine," she said, flashing Sebastian a quick smile to let him know that she didn't mind his comment. Vinnie was just overreacting. "How've you been? I haven't seen you around as much recently! I guess I've gotten so wrapped up in my classes lately," she admitted.

[vinnie]

"Yeah me too." said Vinnie quickly with a smile and a small blush. Faye was so nice and pretty! It had been awhile since Vinnie had gotten the chance to talk to her, but he'd almost rather it didn't happen in front of Sebastian. Vinnie didn't really like the smile she'd given Sebastian, but he was just being jealous and paranoid, neither of which was like him at all. "I've got a lot of AP classes so I'm always busy. Plus there's band and soccer coming up. And I'm showing Sebastian around s-so we'd better get going."

[Viola Hastings]

"Yeah I'm tryin' out for soccer myself later," she explained. Not being interested in the same sex was convenient for her: she didn't become goo-like when talking to girls. "Yeah we'll just be goin' I guess. . ."

She was eager to be shown around the school and get to eye up some of the guys. . .who wouldn't be interested in her. And the one's that were, she'd have to avoid anyway. They were bound to notice a few appendages she lacked.

[adelena]

Lena had just passed her brother with out taking much notice of the boy standing next to him. She quickly did a double take to look at the boy; he was cute, in sort of a girly pretty boy way. Lena had never seen him before so he had to be new. The boy was like a breath of fresh air in the school. Lena was so sick of all the boys at SJ, it was nice to have a new boy to look at. She grin slyly to herself as she walked over to them.

"Well, hello there." she said with a smile to the new boy. "I've never seen you before, you must be new." She flipped her hair back and stood very close to the boy. Flirting in front of he brother was a bug risk, but it was one she was willing to take with this guy.

Having only seen Adelena once herself, Vi didn't recognize her immediately, and even if she had, it was best to pretend otherwise. Sebastian certainly hadn't met her. She got awfully close Viola's personal space and she realized some of the disadvantages to the whole. . ."I'm a guy" thing.

"Yeah, uh, I just got here. I'm staying with my dad for a semester," she explained. She extended her hand for Adelena to shake. "Muh name's Sebastian Kelly."

[adelena]

"Just the semester?" said Lena with disappointment, giving Sebastian a nice girly pout. That immediately stomped out the possibility of a long term relationship. At least they could still fool around though. . . "I'm Lena." She shook the boys hand. It felt unusually soft for a guys hand, but Lena didn't mind; it was actually kinda hot. "I see you already met my brother." she jerk her head toward Vinnie. She also felt it was necessary to give Sebastian fair warning of who her brother was. Vinnie was one of the bigger guys at their school, not to mention his attack dog at home.

[Viola Hastings]

"Nice ta meet you Lena," she said.

What she said next made some things start to click into place. She thought Adelena looked familiar, and wasn't Vinnie the uber over protective type. . .good times. She let go of Lena's hand and grinned awkwardly at Vinnie.

"Yeah. . .heh. . .Vinnie was just about to show me around the school," she said.

[vinnie]

Vinnie did not like the way Lena was flirting with Sebastian. If he didn't want to have to worry about Sebastian doing anything with his little sister he was going to have the lay the law down now. "Yes, this is my sister Lena, I hope you too can be very good friends." he emphasized the word friends as if to say 'touch her and I'll fucking kill you'. After the whole Blane thing Vinnie was not about to take any chances with the boys Lena was interested in. Sure, Sebastian seemed like a nice enough guy, but he just didn't come across as good boyfriend material for his sister.

"Hey now, let's just settle down," she said, grinning awkwardly.

She had no attraction to Lena, but she couldn't very well just blurt that out without blowing her cover or hurting feelings.

"I'm sure we'll be great friends," she said, making sure the phrase sounded harmless.
