[Viola Hastings]

Viola was doing something unnatural for her character. She was shopping at Macy's. . . for a dress. She sighed even while inside. She had asked her parent's for a bit of extra cash and used her money form the Opera House, where she worked, to come her and look for something nice for this stupid formal.

If she didn't enjoy dancing, she wouldn't even bother. And she and Kyan agreed to go together if neither one had a date. Although, if she admitted it to herself, Kyan was more likely to have one than she was.

She found two or three selections and slung them over her arm as she continued wandering around.

[vinnie]

Vinnie's father, who was more protective of Lena than he was, made Vinnie accompany his sister to the mall so she could get a dress for the Home Coming dance. This basically meant that Vinnie had become Lena's slave for the day. Usually Lena would go right to the most expensive stores, but their father told her to get something a bit less expensive for Home Coming so she could get an even better dress for prom. Lena agreed to this without much complaint.

So there they were in the junior's section at Macy's with Vinnie feeling extremely out of place among the all the sparkles, lace, and skirts. Lena had gone to try on some pink dress in the dressing room that was too big so Vinnie was off trying to find her a smaller size. During his search he ran into Vi who seemed to be doing the same thing as Lena; picking out a dress for home coming.

"Oh, hi!" said Vinnie brightly, before he realized he had a sparkley light pink dress in his hand, "Oh, um, my sister was trying this on and it was too big so I'm trying to find her a smaller size. I swear it's not for me or anything!" he explained hastily.

Viola spotted Vinnie and smiled.

"Hey," she said. She noticed the pink dress he was referring to and choked back a laugh. "I'm sure it is. . . "

She was just teasing. She thought about adding pink was his colour jokingly, but opted against it.

"So your sister's here looking for a dress? I guess it's close to Homecoming for you guys too," she commented.

[vinnie]

"Yeah, my dad made me go dress shopping with her for her dress," said Vinnie, "which pretty much means I'm her slave for the day. I see myself buying her a smoothie in the near future." said Vinnie with dread; Lena always made him buy her a smoothie and made him get one to because she said it was "healthier" than the milkshake she wanted. "Any luck finding yourself a dress?"

"Ahh. . .not so much," Viola admitted. "I was going to go try on four that I've picked out actually, but I really can't decide."

She gestured to four dresses slung across her arms helplessly.

[vinnie]

"Oh." That certainly was a lot of dresses. Vinnie had a feeling he'd be carrying around the same amount, if not more, dress for Lena pretty soon. "I guess it's harder for girls. Guys just go rent a tux and that's it. Umm, I hate to tear you away from your own browsing, but could you help me find this in a smaller size?" he held up the rejected pink dress.

"I guess it's harder for girls. Guys just go rent a tux and that's it."

"Lucky bastards," Viola said with a sigh. "I guess that's why most girls respect metro and queers so much: they probably go through about as much crap as we do to pick out clothes."

"Umm, I hate to tear you away from your own browsing, but could you help me find this in a smaller size?"

"I guess I can try. . .I'm not sure where everythign goes in here. . .but oh wait I saw that one," she said, leading him over towards the dress rack. :So what size are we looking for?"

[vinnie]

"Umm . . ." it took Vinnie a few seconds to find the tag. He didn't know were they kept the tag on dresses! "This is a five so I guess we have to find a four." said Vinnie looking around for the same dress that he was carrying. He really couldn't tell one pink dress from the others. They all just looked pink and sparklely to him. "I think this is it!" said Vinnie spotting a pink dress he was sure was it, but once he held the two next to each other he discovered they were different. "Or not. . . ." Vinnie looked helplessly over at Viola.

"A four?" Viola asked searching. "I think it goes by odds. . .so umm. .. ooh"

She tried to hide a laugh as Vinnie pulled out a dress that wasn't the the one they were looking for. Oh men. . . .

"It. . .was a good try," she said sympathetically.

She went back to searching for the dress and gave a small 'aha' as she pulled out the one he needed. She held it out to him.

"There you go," she said with a smile.

[vinnie]

"Thanks!" said Vinnie taking the dress from Viola, "I'll be right back, I'm just going to go give this to Lena." He turned and quickly ran into the dressing rooms. Being the dumb boy that he was he forgot with dressing room Lena was in. "Lena?" he asked cautiously.

"Well it's about time!" Lena's voice came from the fourth dressing room down.

"Here." said Vinnie throwing the dress over the door to Lena and quickly leaving before she asked him to do anything else. "I ran before she made me do anything else." he told Viola once he got back over to her.

"Nice strategy," Vi said conspiratorially. "Out of sight out of mind."

She shifted her wight awkwardly from one foot to the other after that.

"Umm. . .I'm not trying to be rude, but I kind of need to try these on. . . ." she said apologetically. "I'd ask you to come help me pick which one looks best, but your sisters in the dressing rooms."

[vinnie]

"Oh!" said Vinnie, feeling a little bad for holding up Viola, "Right, sure. Go for it." he stepped aside to let her go to the dressing rooms. As much as he would have liked to see Viola in a bunch of different dresses the threat of Lena sending him on more missions was enough to keep him away from the dressing room for now.
